11 Days from Marrakech, dunes of Erg Chegaga

With our trekkings you leave your everyday life behind you. You dive into the fascination and beauty of the desert. You get to know the life of the Berbers and Nomads. Our guides cook for you traditional food and you sleep in small tents or under the thousands of stars. Our group size is always small.

Day 1 Arrival

We pick you up from Marrakech airport and take you to a beautiful riad for overnight stay.

Day 2 Drive to Mhamid

In the morning we start from your riad and head towards the High Atlas Mountains. We cross the Tizin Tichka Pass with approx. 2.260 m. On the way we take some breaks to take pictures and to enjoy the landscape of the Atlas region.

We visit the famous and well-preserved Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The Kasbah from the 17th century is the backdrop of numerous Hollywood films.

After the Kasbah visit, we reach Ouarzazate where there are some active film studios. Afterwards we continue to the green Draa river valley, which is lined with thousands of palm trees. We go to Mhamid and from there directly to the desert for our first night in the Sahara. B/-/D

Day 3 Mhamid - Sidi Naji

After breakfast, we take our path beside our new companions (dromedaries) and head towards the sand dunes of Zahar. Lunch break will be under a shady palm tree. After we enjoy a cup of tea, we hike to our first night camp. In Sidi Naji, we set up our tents near a holy place of the nomads. Dinner at the camp fire and a night under the stars. B/L/D

Day 4 Sidi Naji - Erg Zahar

From Sidi Naji to Erg Zahar, we cross an area with many sand dunes. After lunch we head towards the sea of sand named Erg Zahar, our overnight place. We enjoy the sunset on one of the highest sand dunes in Morocco and look forward to a traditional dinner at the camp fire. B/L/D

Day 5 Erg Zahar - Erg Essadra

After the sunrise and breakfast, we head towards the dunes of Erg Smar. The lunch break in the shade of large tamarisk trees in the middle of the Sahara strengthens us for our afternoon. We reach the very beautiful area of ErgEssadra. We set up our camp for the night and enjoy the evening under the stars. B/L/D

Day 6 Erg Essadra - Erg Chegaga

Our current destination is the impressive dunes of Erg Chegaga. A beautiful large group of dunes stretching over a length of 40 km and up to 300 m high. Experience a new dimension of tranquility and serenity during the sunset on the high dunes of Erg Chegaga. B/L/D

Day 7 Erg Chegaga - Erg Bougarn

After a restful night and a hearty breakfast, we start our way back to Mhamid, the gateway to the desert. After about 3 hours trekking, lunch break. Later we continue our hike to the dunes of Bougarn. Our place for the night camp. B/L/D

Day 8 Erg Bougarn - Mezouaria

Still impressed by the sunrise and strengthened by the breakfast, we start our last full-day trekking. We pass dunes and a large rocky desert. In the afternoon we walk to the dunes of Mezouaria. We set up our tents and look forward to our last evening at the camp fire. B/L/D

Day 9 Mezouaria - Mhamid

The last day, one last chance to experience the sunrise in the Sahara. After breakfast, we take our way back to Mhamid. We will reach late afternoon at our camp in Mhamid. B/L/D

Day 10 Return to Marrakech by Bus

In the early morning, we take you to the bus station. The CTM bus departs at 6.00 am and arrives at Marrakech at around 3 pm. We go to our riad and enjoy this fabulous city for the rest of the day. -/-/-

Day 11 Return flight

Or you can stay a few more days in Marrakech and be enchanted by the flair of a thousand and one night. B/-/-
